How do you support Family Promise?

I support FP by volunteering at the day center, answering the phone, greeting visitors, helping with correspondence, getting the mail from the post office, shopping for day center supplies and guest family needs, and whatever else the staff needs done throughout the day.

Why do you believe in Family Promise's mission? Why do you volunteer?

The FP staff does an outstanding job of helping families in need find stable, permanent housing and/or employment, and they do it with care and compassion. This is why I find them a worthwhile organization to support with my time and dollars.

How can others join you and support the Family Promise mission?

Others can support FP by volunteering at the day center, making a monetary donation, or helping with/attending one of their fundraisers. Just call the FP office for more information!

Erica Baker* was desperate. Deeming her house unsafe, the City of Chattanooga condemned it, leaving her homeless. Kind relatives allowed Erica to stay on their couches, but it was never a permanent solution. So Erica reached out to us.

Through the Rapid Rehousing Program, Family Promise was able to swiftly house Erica in a two-bedroom duplex, with six months rent paid off! A private citizen donated essential furnishings, and we provided the household items. To ensure her continued success, case manager Kathleen Wright will continuously work with Erica for the next 24 months.

The pieces fell quickly and perfectly together so that Erica was able to quarantine at home safely this March! How different would her story have been if Family Promise and the community had not been there for her? How many families are still without a secure shelter during these unprecedented times?

But you can help. Help others shelter in place with a shelter of their own. https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/familypromisechattanooga

How do you support Family Promise?

I volunteer to staff the front desk at the Day Center on weekend days; I donate money and household goods; and I include an annual plea for volunteers in the newsletter published for my faith group.

Why do you believe in Family Promise's mission?

I have a soft spot for homeless people, especially those with children. I like the programs and methods FP uses to help homeless families make their transition back to stability. I am concerned about the wider impact on society when children have no home, no confidence in getting their next meal. The mental health of parents in that desperate situation and how that reflects on their children troubles me.

Why do you volunteer?

I want to do more to help the homeless than send money. I learned the value and pleasure of volunteering from my family and feel like I am making a difference, as small as that is.

How can others join you and support the Family Promise mission?

By volunteering at the Day Center or their churches, sending money and household items, offering classes if they have a special talent.
